How to Automate Salon Invoicing in 60 Minutes
Set up Square for Salons and add your services
Go to squareup.com/us/en/appointments and create a free account. Enter your salon name, address, phone, and business hours. Then go to Services and add each of your services with their name, duration, price, and which staff member performs it.
Once complete, Square gives you a public booking page (e.g., squareup.com/appointments/book/your-salon). Add this URL to your Instagram bio, your website, and your Google Business Profile listing.

Enable automatic deposits at booking
In Square Appointments, go to Settings → Booking Policies → Deposits. Toggle on "Require a deposit to book online." Set your deposit amounts by service or across the board:
- Services under $100: $25 flat deposit works well
- Services $100–$200: $50 deposit or 25% of service price
- Color, extensions, bridal: 50% deposit recommended
When a client books online, Square collects the deposit via credit card immediately. The remaining balance is charged at checkout after the service. If they no-show or cancel within your cancellation window, you keep the deposit per your policy.

Turn on automated booking confirmations and reminders
In Square Appointments, go to Settings → Notifications. Enable these three automations:
- Booking confirmation (immediately): Sent by text and email the moment a client books. Includes appointment details, stylist, address, your cancellation policy, and a "Manage appointment" link.
- 24-hour reminder: Sent the day before: "Reminder: Your appointment at [Salon] is tomorrow at [time] with [stylist]. Need to reschedule? [link]"
- 2-hour reminder (optional): Great for color services: "See you soon! For your best color result, please arrive with clean, dry hair."

Enable automatic digital receipts
When you check out a client using your Square Point of Sale, Square automatically sends a digital receipt to their email or phone number, the moment you tap "Complete Sale." You don't have to do anything.
The receipt includes: service name, stylist, price, deposit already deducted, final amount charged, your salon's contact info, and a "Book Again" button linking directly to your booking page.

Enable digital tipping
In your Square POS settings, go to Settings → Checkout → Tips. Enable the tip screen and set suggested tip amounts: 18%, 20%, 25%, or custom. The tip prompt appears on the payment screen (or the customer's card reader) at checkout.
Salons that switch from cash tips to digital tipping consistently report 30–40% higher tip amounts. Why? Because clients who don't have cash either skip tipping entirely or feel awkward. A digital prompt makes it easy and normal, and suggested percentages anchor expectations higher than a tip jar.
Check your revenue dashboard weekly
Every Monday morning, spend 5 minutes in Square Dashboard → Reports → Sales Summary. You'll see:
- Total revenue for the week (and comparison to last week)
- Revenue by service type, are color services or cuts driving more income?
- Revenue by stylist, useful for commission tracking
- No-show and cancellation trends
- Average transaction size, is it going up over time?
No manual spreadsheet work. Square does all the math automatically.
How a Miami Salon Eliminated No-Shows and Recovered $2,400/Month in Lost Revenue
Maria owns a 4-stylist salon in Miami. She averaged 8–10 no-shows per week, mostly color appointments that left a chair empty for 2–3 hours with no revenue. She knew she needed deposits but was afraid clients would be offended.
She switched to Square for Salons, turned on $50 deposits for all color services, and enabled the digital tip screen. She lost two clients who refused to pay a deposit, the same two who had no-showed three times before. No-shows dropped from 9 per week to under 2. Tips went up 32% once clients had a digital prompt instead of a cash jar.
Stop losing revenue to no-shows. Start today, it's free.
Square for Salons handles deposits, reminders, checkout, receipts, and revenue reports, all included at no monthly cost. Only the standard card processing fee applies.
