Posting to Instagram, Facebook, and Google Business by hand is eating your week. We tested Buffer, Later, Hootsuite, and Metricool so you can pick one tool, batch your content, and post consistently without living on your phone.

After testing all four platforms, Buffer won for simplicity, pricing, and doing exactly what most small business owners need, without a steep learning curve.
The features that actually matter for a small business owner posting 3–7 times per week.

Buffer is what you use when you want to stop thinking about social media and just get it done. Their interface is so clean it's almost boring, and that's a compliment. You connect your accounts, write your posts, pick your times, and Buffer handles the rest. No learning curve, no setup wizard that takes an hour to complete.
Their AI assistant is genuinely useful for small business owners. You describe what you want to post ("a Tuesday tip about why regular roof inspections save money") and it generates 3–4 caption options you can edit and schedule in two minutes. Their "best time to post" feature analyzes your audience engagement and recommends specific time slots, and we saw real improvements in reach after following its suggestions.
The free plan is legitimately useful: 3 social profiles, 10 scheduled posts per channel, and basic analytics. For a solo business owner posting 2–3 times a week, you may never need to upgrade.
Later was built for Instagram first, and it shows. Their visual grid planner lets you see exactly how your Instagram feed will look before you publish anything, just drag photos around until your grid looks the way you want. For businesses like salons, restaurants, or real estate agents where visuals are everything, this feature is worth the price of admission alone.
Their Linkinbio feature (link-in-bio landing page) is one of the best in the market. Instead of changing your Instagram bio link for every post, you create a simple landing page where followers can click to find your latest offers, blog posts, or booking page. It tracks clicks too, so you can see what people are actually clicking on.
Metricool is the underdog pick on this list, and it deserves more attention than it gets. The biggest thing that sets it apart: it's one of the only affordable tools that lets you schedule posts directly to your Google Business Profile. For a plumber, dentist, or restaurant, your Google Business posts directly affect how you show up in local search, and most business owners are leaving that channel completely empty.
Beyond Google Business, Metricool has surprisingly good analytics and a clean scheduler. Their free plan includes 1 brand (all your connected accounts) with unlimited scheduled posts (up to 50 in the queue at a time). Their competitor analysis tool lets you track how your social growth compares to local competitors, a feature that usually costs much more on other platforms.
